Redevelopment Process
The Redevelopment Project has been guided at every stage by input from the medical, clinical and operational leaders of BC Children’s Hospital, BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre and Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children. The BC Children's Hospital Foundation, BC Women's Hospital and Health Centre Foundation and Child & Family Research Institute associated with BC Children’s and BC Women’s have also provided valuable input.
Acute Care Centre planning sessions utilize both traditional and innovative methodology sessions involving hundreds of medical staff including physicians, other clinical staff, as well as administration and family representatives. Through collaboration, planning teams are working to determine the best locations for each department and which departments should be located side-by side. Planning teams are also working to establish patient room requirements and appropriate room sizes. The goal is to ensure that hospital facilities are maintained to the highest standards well into the future.
The Redevelopment Project is expected to take six years to complete and has been organized for implementation in three phases:
Renovation and Relocation (Phase 1)
Acute Care Centre (Phase 2)
Renovation, Relocation and Expansion (Phase 3)
