BC Children’s and BC Women’s are part of an academic health centre affiliated with UBC and associated with other local universities and colleges. Both hospitals serve as clinical education sites for medical students, residents, nursing students and other health professional trainees.
In addition, continuing education and professional development are expected of all staff, and space is required for these activities as well as for staff orientation, patient and family education.
Research is necessary for BC Children's and BC Women's to provide the best care to their patients and is essential to the mission of both hospitals. Clinical research, clinical care and clinical teaching occur together and involve the same patients, physicians and other professional staff.
The Redevelopment Project will also provide expanded facilities for UBC’s medical school on the Children’s and Women’s campus.
