A key feature of patient and family centred care is the use of single patient rooms. Single-patient rooms will include a family zone with sufficient space for a comfortable bed, storage space and an area for a family member to stay over night, a patient zone and a health provider zone for staff. Wherever possible, patient rooms will also have windows allowing for natural light.
Redevelopment concepts follow the latest principles of evidence-based design which results in a healthier hospital environment. Larger patient rooms contribute to patient safety by decreasing the length of stay and the risk of infection. They also contribute to the healing process by supporting family involvement in patient care and by enabling better sleep patterns for patients.
