Parking and Construction Updates 

Due to increasing construction, please check back for regular updates before you come to campus.

Saturday, May 18: Excavation on ring road
On Saturday May 18, contractors will be excavating a portion of the campus ring road across from the entrance to the BC Children’s and BC Women’s Hospitals underground parkade. This will affect traffic entering the site from the Oak Street entrance.

Personnel will be on hand directing traffic. The underground parkade and parking gates will remain open during this time. However, there will be a minor disruption to the traffic flow.



Patient Waiting Area Construction Begins and Renovations Continue in Clinic Area in Ambulatory Care Building (ACB)
Over the coming weeks, a new patient waiting area is being constructed in the lobby of the ACB, adjacent to Starbucks and the vendor tables. Seating has been moved into the area. Low partitions will be constructed around new patient waiting space. Work will be completed after hours to minimize impact on staff, patients and families.

*Please note, seating in this area is designated for patients and families waiting for appointments in the clinics on the ground floor of the Ambulatory Care Building.

Renovations to make way for the relocation of the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Departments also continue in the clinics on the ground floor of the ACB. Construction fencing will be put up around the area under construction.


Children's and Women's Underground Parkade painting project
The Children's and Women's underground parkade is being painted. Painting will take place after 8pm on weekday evenings and during the day on weekends. Large sections of the parkade will be barricaded in rotation, to maintain access for staff, patients, families and visitors during painting. The project is anticipated to finish in June.


Parking Gate Near 28 Avenue Entrance Closes
The parking gate near 28 Avenue is closed and will remain closed until September. There will be no direct access to the north parking lot from the 28 Avenue parking gate. Please access the north parking lot from the Heather Street Entrance or the Oak Street Entrance. Please watch for new traffic patterns and follow signage. ACB entrance 44 closes and construction at the south east end of Ambulatory Care Building (ACB)
Contractors have begun setting up construction fencing adjacent to the south east section of the ACB. ACB entrance 44 has been closed and is expected to reopen in September. Please use entrance 42, across from the BC Children’s Hospital Main Entrance, or entrance 21 on the north west side of the building.

Due to the construction, parking stalls 227 – 236 and 167 – 170 will be out of service. Other areas nearby may also be periodically affected. For map of affected area, please click here.


Construction Escalates


Contractors have begun digging large trenches onsite. From now until October 2013, sections along the red highlighted area in the map above will be temporarily out-of-service at various times. 

Due to the excavation, parking stalls 322 - 331, 351 - 359 and 925 – 939 will be temporarily out-of-service. Other areas nearby may also be periodically affected and up to 43 parking stalls will be temporarily out of use until April. For a larger map, please click here.


Mental Health Building Roofing Project
The flashing on the roof of the Mental Health Buildling is being replaced. Patients and families will notice some construction activity and fencing near entrance 87.


Free Parking Assistant Service


As construction activities increase, the site’s free parking assistant service is ready to provide relief for patients and families, offering parking assistance at no additional cost. Regular parking rates still apply.

This free resource is available Monday to Friday, 10:00am — 4:00pm. To use the parking assistant service, drop your vehicle off outside the BC Children's Hospital main entrance.  For more information please call the Parking Supervisor at 604 875 2086 (8:00am - 2:30pm, Monday - Friday, excluding Statutory Holidays).
